Hope & Carter Tureen w/ Lid, Platter, 2 Soup Dishes

Gorgeous antique Hope & Carter tureen or covered vegetable / casserole dish ("Louvre" pattern) with large platter and 2 soup dishes. The mark on this set dates its production between 1862 and 1880, and confirms that it is a product of Hope & Carter, a manufacturer of earthenware at Fountain Place in Burslem, Staffordshire England. One of the namesakes, John Hope, was formerly in partnership with Pinder & Bourne, and the works were taken over by GL Ashworth & Brothers around 1880.

This is a well preserved, lovely set with no cracks or chips, French blue and silver lustre, featuring a gargoyle face design with leaves. The platter has some minor discoloration around the edges of the rim. The platter, tureen and plates are marked "15460". Note that the number is not visible in the photos for one of the soup dishes due to wear, but it can still be viewed if the dish is angled in the light properly. The interior of the tureen has some discoloration from use as can be seen in the photos.
